Gail Jones

In this edition of the acclaimed Australian writer Gail Jones, joins Tall Poppies, The Podcast. She spoke to Breandáin in Berlin, a special location for the author, as it is where much of her writing takes place.

Gail hails from Western Australia, where she grew up in the towns of Kalgoorlie and Broom, and studied in Perth at the Western Australia University.  She is currently Professor of Writing, in the Writing and Society Research School at the Western Sydney University.

At home, Gail’s work has been awarded several major accolades including the 2019 Australian Prime Minister’s prize for literature, while abroad her fiction has been translated into fifteen languages and long-listed for esteemed prizes such as the Man Booker Prize and the Orange Prize.  

To date Gail has written seven novels that include the titles,  “Sixty Lights,” “A Guide to Berlin,” and two short-story collections, and a critical monograph. Her most recent book “The Death of Noah Glass,” is inspired by art, and explores grief, happiness, the importance of memory and the mystery of time.
